The aspiration with which I fought has shattered: Mirza Fakhru

Paying homage to the martyrs at the Saver National Memorial on Independence Day, BNP General Secretary Mirza Fakhru Islam Alamgir said, "The country has become independent in return for the sacrifice of lakhs of martyrs." What a pity for us, today 50 years after independence When we are celebrating Independence Day, the golden jubilee of this country, democracy has been banished from Bangladesh. Lakeshia, Asha, Sapna, we fought in 1971; That dream, that aspiration has completely disappeared.

On the occasion of the Great Independence and National Day, BNP leaders paid floral tributes to the martyrs in memory of the party leaders and workers at the National Memorial in Savar at around 9.15 am. Later party general secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir spoke to reporters.

Criticizing the ruling Awami League government, the BNP general secretary said, "Today, after 50 years, our people have no right to vote, no freedom, no organisation. Bangladesh is completely an authoritarian fascist." Governance is under control. Party President Khaleda Zia is in jail on false charges. Party's acting president Tariq Rehman is in exile on false case He claimed that party leaders and workers are being disappeared and implicated in false cases More than 600 leaders and activists have gone missing and thousands have been killed.

Referring to Bangladesh being hit by terrible misfortune, Mirza Fakhrul said, "After 50 years, paying homage to the martyrs, we have taken oath here today. We liberated the country 50 years ago through the liberation struggle. Now we will free democracy again." I will release country's leader Khaleda Zia. I will bring back working president Tariq Rehman. Mentioning that a democratic state would be formed through fair elections with the people of the country, the BNP general secretary said, "We want fair elections, elections under neutral government, through free and fair elections conducted by neutral elections. Will set up people's government. Commission. We will build a people's kingdom. That state would be a truly democratic state. That state will be an independent state.
